Ralf Schulze

Prof. Dr. med. dent. Ralf Schulze is Oral Surgeon and currently Head of the Division of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at the Dental Hospital of the University of Bern, Switzerland. He completed his habilitation thesis in 2006 and was awarded exraordinary professorship in 2013 at the University Medical Center of Mainz, Germany. He has published more than 80 papers in Maxillofacial Radiology and (co-)authored seven books with four of them being international publications.
Ralf is an active reviewer in Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology for a multitude of scientific journals since more than 20 years. He has acquired several official research grants (German Research Foundation (DFG), Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)). Ralf has been invited speaker at various national and international conferences and was among the first individuals in Germany awarded an official license for the compulsory postgraduate education courses for CBCT. In 2010 and 2019 he was awarded the “Outstanding Teacher Award” of the University Medical Center at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz. In 2022 he received the “Teacher of the Year-Award” from the dental students at the University of Bern.
In 2009 Ralf was President of the Diagnostic Sciences Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). From 2012 to 2014 he was President of the European Academy of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology (EADMFR), from June 2011 to 2020 Editor-in-Chief of the Journal “Dentomaxillofacial Radiology” where he now is an Editorial Board member. As long-term expert member/consultant of the dental radiographic committees in the German Institute of Standardization (Deutsches Institut fur Normung, DIN) among other standards he also developed the ̈Technical guidelines for dental radiography”. He is dental expert member of the working team for federal German regulations in medical (and dental) radiology (AK X).
Ralf is the Principal Author and Coordinator of the German guideline “Dentale digitale Volumen-Tomographie (CBCT)”. He also co-authored the Safety Report “Radiation Protection in Dental Radiology” published by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2023. Since 2023 Ralf is president of the German Society of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (AGBiZ).
