Implantmed Plus II: Smart connectivity. Better planning. Reliable documentation.

Interview with Dr med. dent. Frederic Hermann MSc., Zug, Switzerland

Stylish, functional, connected: with Implantmed Plus II, W&H takes everyday practice to a new level. Dr med. dent. Frederic Hermann also relies on this innovation in his practice in Zug, Switzerland. In combination with the new Piezomed module Plus II, he benefits from an efficient platform for oral surgery and implantology – offering maximum flexibility and digital connectivity. In this interview, the Swiss expert explains how the W&H system significantly streamlines and ensures maximum safety through seamless documentation.

1. Dr Hermann, as an experienced Swiss implantologist and international speaker, how would you describe yourself in a few words?

Dr Hermann: My areas of expertise are implantology, periodontology, and digital dentistry. For 18 years, I have been leading the practice ‘TEAM 15’ in Zug, where our interdisciplinary team combines all specialties under one roof. Our devices are used intensively, and we cover a very broad range of indications and applications.

2. What makes modern technology truly relevant for everyday practice?

Dr Hermann: High-tech in dentistry has to work like a perfectly tuned sports car: intuitive, precise, and without distraction. Everything has its predefined position, allowing for self-explanatory and effortless operation. In the operating room as well, every move must be spot on, and the workflow must run smoothly. With Implantmed Plus II – and also in combination with the new Piezomed module Plus II – we achieve exactly that: efficient, safe working at the highest level.

3. What innovative features are incorporated into the new W&H implantology motor?

Dr Hermann: The new look and feel is impressive at first glance. Anyone who takes a closer look at the technology and the integrated features immediately recognises the well‑thought‑out architecture behind the system – from smart connectivity with remote updates to helpful functions that noticeably simplify everyday practice. Combined with implant stability measurement, it enables seamless planning and more precise prediction of outcomes.

4. How does the new Implantmed Plus II support efficient and safe documentation?

Dr Hermann: This is where Implantmed Plus II truly scores with useful features: with the new scanning function, implants and biomaterials can be captured directly on the display using a Data Matrix code. If a code is missing, materials can simply be documented by taking a photo. All data can then be immediately assigned to the patient – quickly and efficiently. And it is securely stored in the cloud via ioDent®.

5. How does ioDent® simplify the organisation and tracking of treatment data?

Dr Hermann: The treatment planning is carried out in advance. For example, new implants can be planned using SICAT software and then directly defined, including manufacturer, type, and diameter, and transferred to the device. Thanks to seamless digital documentation, the entire practice team benefits from clear and structured workflows.

Using the patient ID, all relevant treatment data, from the number of implants and torque values to the treatment time, area, and materials used, can be accessed quickly and at any time. Particularly practical: with ioDent®, individualised treatment reports can be created, including the torque curve, ISQ value, and material list. These reports can be generated as PDFs, printed, and given to patients as an implant passport. This is ideal in the event of a change of practitioner or for international travel.

In addition, software updates can be easily installed via ioDent®, ensuring that the devices are always equipped with the latest features. If any issues occur with the device, W&H provides rapid remote service, as service technicians can directly access the device protocol.

6. The new Implantmed Plus II can be combined with the Piezomed module Plus II. What advantages does this offer for your surgical procedure?

Dr Hermann: The modularity of the W&H system provides maximum flexibility. Already during preparation, I can give my team clear instructions: ‘Please prepare only the implantology motor’ or ‘Combine both devices for the surgery.’ This ensures that every procedure is perfectly coordinated.
The modular system saves time and ensures smooth workflows. All functions are immediately available, and during surgery, switching between implantology and piezo surgery is seamless – without changing devices. One device instead of two stand-alone units also means reduced required space.

7. How is implant stability measurement with Osstell from W&H integrated into the system?

Dr Hermann: Continuous monitoring and documentation are the foundation for quality in implant treatment. This is exactly where the W&H system comes in: implant stability measurement is a central feature and, with the wireless Osstell Beacon, provides precise data on stability. Resonance frequency analysis forms the basis for safe decision-making and predictable treatment outcomes – quickly and reliably.

Whether during insertion, uncovering, or prosthetic restoration: increasing ISQ values indicate the ongoing osseointegration. Measurement with the Osstell Beacon is quick and intuitive via Bluetooth, while colour indicators (green, yellow, red) immediately display the stability range. This information is essential for safe decision-making in immediate restoration, immediate loading, or All-on-X concepts.

8. In your opinion, how will the innovative W&H system influence the future of oral surgery and implantology?

Dr Hermann: For me, the new W&H system is a milestone in oral surgery and implantology. It combines smart connectivity, digital documentation, and helpful assistance functions in a single platform that optimises workflows and makes treatments more predictable. This means greater efficiency, maximum safety, and noticeable relief in everyday surgical routines. Solutions like these are trend-setting – they simplify teamwork and elevate patient care to a new level.

Thank you for the interview.
